If you are enrolled in Medicare, you’re eligible for the Extended Medicare Safety Net (EMSN). Medicare Safety Nets help to lower your out of pocket medical costs for out of hospital services. Please refer to safety net information here as this may reduce your out of pocket medical costs significantly.

How it works: Once your out-of-pocket expenses reach the threshold in a calendar year, Medicare will cover up to 80% of any further out-of-pocket expenses you have for out-of-hospital medical services that are subsidised under the MBS.

You may be eligible for the lower threshold if you’re any of the following: a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card holder, a Health Care Card holder, a Pensioner Concession Card holder, or eligible for Family Tax Benefit Part A.
